Perhaps one of God’s most ingenious ideas was to propagate the human race by allowing us to have children. In them, we often see a mirror refection of ourselves, altered with their own unique personalities and potential. God allows us to participate in their growing awareness of the world, life, and even God Himself. This wonderful opportunity is to help prepare them for a full, rich life with all its limitations and opportunities is truly a privilege. The most precious gift a parent can give a child is a good marriage where love and affection flow, where forgiveness and acceptance is the rule, and where God dwells. Nothing you give them will ever replace the example of a healthy marriage and the security of love they feel by your example.
Being a child is similar to being a seed. Parenting is the garden in which the child grows and develops. And like all gardens, parenting requires total commitment, consistent hard work, and a great deal of love and nurturing. Be ruthless, yet gentle with the weeds, for the budding child is so fragile in it’s early development. I would hope that you would bring the same dedication and devotion to your parenting as a dedicated gardener would to his beautiful garden. If you do, you will have the satisfaction of viewing the splendor of your own creation. Remember too, that parenting and children must constantly be replenished and nurtured, if you want your relationship to flourish.
One can never overemphasize the need for affection and continuous positive affirmation of love and acceptance for your child. You can never overindulge in “I love you’s”, hugs, and building healthy self esteem by your praise and encouragement. No matter what your child does, let them know that beyond a shadow of a doubt you will always love them, regardless of what they do. Their actions you may not condone, but your acceptance of them as a person will allow them to have a healthy self-image and balance between their weaknesses and their strengths.
Spiritually speaking, it is your responsibility when your child reaches an age of understanding to introduce your child to an awareness of Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. You can’t depend on the church to teach your child about God’s love, compassion and forgiveness. It must be the result of the fruitfulness of your own spirituality and your personal relationship with God Himself.
If you could give your child 3 gifts they might be wisdom, a deep abiding sense of integrity and honesty, and a personal knowledge of God and his laws. The book of Proverbs is an excellent source for these three characteristics and out of those three concepts, come the basis of all human character, behavior, and spirituality. There are 31 chapters, and may I suggest you read one chapter daily, one for each day of the month. As they are read over and over, the ideas, concepts, and values will be absorbed into their subconscious and reconfirmed in yours and become an integral part of your lives. We are what we read, and what we learn to believe.

Mary L Robbins Wrote:
They are little only once LORD. Grant me the wisdom and patience to follow in Your footsteps and prepare them for what is to come.
They are little only once LORD. Make me take the time to play pretend, to read or tell them a story; to cuddle. Don’t let me for one minute think anything is more important than the school play, the recital, the big game, fishing, or the quiet walk hand in hand. All too soon LORD, they will grow away and there is no turning back. Le me have my memories with no regrets.
Please help me to be a good parent LORD. When I must discipline—let me do it in love, let me be firm but fair; let me correct and explain with patience.
They are growing away LORD. While I have the chance let me do my best for them. For the rest of our lives, please LORD, let me be their very best friend.
